We hope that you are having a fun-filled and enjoyable summer! Although school is not in session, the Greenfox Team is always learning, teaching, and working on ways to improve the environment. In this edition of the Greenfox Newsletter, we would like to share with you some of the things we have been up to this month. We would also like to hear about what you are doing and let you know some ways that you can get involved?
Greenfox Director Ashlee Dahlberg spent the month of July exploring some of the most wonderful and remote areas of the country with her husband, Ethan. Ashlee and Ethan traveled across parts of Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming, spending time camping in Glacier, Yellowstone, and Grand Teton national parks.
There, she experienced firsthand the beauty and natural wonder of these parks. In addition to hiking and rafting, Ashlee spent time talking to the park scientists and rangers, learning about the environmental threats to the parks and the steps that are being taken to protect them. From global warming to invasive species, there are many factors threatening the parks despite their pristine appearance. In the face of all of these threats, it is important to have advocates protecting these national gems.
Bike or Walk to School!
In early July, Greenfox Schools founder Kristen von Hoffmann teamed up with Janie-Katz Christy, the founder of Green Streets Initiative, for a bike ride to promote sustainable transportation in schools.
The Green Streets Initiative is an international grassroots organization based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, that celebrates and promotes the use of sustainable, active transportation. Their aim is to create safer, healthier and quieter streets and more vibrant communities for commuters and citizens of all kinds. Green Streets is best known for Walk/Ride Days, which occur on the last Friday of every month. On these days, people everywhere are invited to:
*first, Go Green (walk, bike, use public transit, skate, canoe,
* and Wear Green…
* then celebrate and get rewarded! Celebrate in your school or workplace – often with special incentives, raffles, thank-you’s – and then get rewarded online and by a network of local retailers and other businesses who will thank you with raffles, discounts and freebies you for your green-going efforts.)
Here at Greenfox Schools, we would love to hear from you! Let us know what you and your community are doing to make the world a better, greener place.
