Charging Times: Charging time for the Brill Battery will vary depending on how depleted the battery pack is when you start to charge. The Brill charger is a simple transformer with a stated voltage output of 24V DC at 250 milliamperes (mA) current. Therefore a 2200mAh battery would take roughly 8.5 hours to fully charge if it were fully depleted when charging began. Similarly, a 3000mAh battery would take roughly 12 hours with similar conditions. Leaving the battery pack connected to the charger for a longer period of time won’t necessarily damage the pack if it is under 36-48 hours but they shouldn’t be left connected indefinitely either. Rebuilt batteries are Nickel Metal Hydride.
Full Depleted or Not: The Brill battery does not need to be fully depleted before charging but do keep in mind the charge time will be shorter and therefore should be connected to the charger for a shorter period of time. That being said it is a good idea to fully discharge then charge the Brill battery pack 3-4 times when first purchased. This will help achieve a full capacity for the pack.
On Memory: Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMh) battery packs do not suffer from “memory” effect like NiCd batteries do. Charging a NiMh pack at various stages of discharge will have no long term effect on the packs overall capacity. NiMh battery packs, similar to NiCd, are rated for 500-600 full discharge/charge cycles over their lifetime. In reality the number of cycles is longer since most packs are not fully discharged before being charged again.
Charge Every Two Months When Idle: NiMh packs have a somewhat higher self-discharge rate than NiCd. Therefore it is good practice to charge an idle pack every two months or so. Storing the pack in a cold environment will help slow their discharge too.
Brill Batteries: We are very happy to say that we can rebuild Brill batteries better than when they were new. Our customers have been very pleased with the service.
Old Brill Batteries: If you have an old Brill Battery and do not want it, please contact us. We’ll buy it for $10 and have it rebuilt. Please let us know if you have a battery which we can buy.
Brill Chargers: We can now say that we have a charger for the Brill battery which is better than the charger Brill sold. It charges more quickly and does not over heat.
There are two options when rebuilding your battery. We can rebuild the battery to 2.2 Ah which is exactly what you have. Or we can rebuild to 3.0 Ah which is 30% more powerful than what you have. These rebuilt batteries will last longer and charge more quickly.
Brill Batteries and Chargers: As many of you know, we are now rebuilding Brill Batteries. After being rebuilt, the batteries are better than they were when new! We can rebuild the batteries to 2.2 Ah which is what you have or to 3.0 Ah which is 30% more powerful than what you have.
Now Chargers: We can also make new chargers for you, which will charge your battery faster than the Brill charger which came with your battery.

Rebuilding Brill Batteries: When we launched this program of rebuilding Brill Batteries we were not sure how popular it would be. These are the batteries used in Brill Accu 38 electric reel mowers, Brill ASM380 reel mowers, and Brill Accu Trimmers. But after two weeks, we can tell it is very popular. So keep those old Brill Batteries – they are worth something.

Rebuild Brill Batteries: We are very pleased to announce that we can now rebuild Brill Batteries that have lost their charge.
Two Recell Options: We offer two recell options for the 24V Brill packs. They are either our standard capacity 2.2Ah (or 2200mAh if you prefer) nickel-metal hydride (NiMh) cells or 3.0Ah NiMh cells. From what I can glean from the part number on the cells of the Brill pack we serviced last week the OE capacity is 2.0Ah via nickel-cadmium (NiCd) cells.
Two Services: Either one of our services would provide a run-time improvement over the OE pack. Additionally, since we recell the packs using NiMh cells they are more environmentally friendly to manufacture and do not suffer from charge memory effects that NiCd typically do.
The Cells: The cells we use are made to our specifications to be high-drain cells, meaning they are designed to take high loads for a sustained period of time (ours can take a sustained 10X cell capacity load). Basically this means the cells were made for a high-drain use in mind (ie. power tools or in your case lawn mowers which need peak torque output) and are not typical cells which would be used for low power electrical devices (cordless phones, etc.).
Supply of Brill Batteries: As the supply of Brill Batteries has run out, this is great news. Save those old Brill Batteries!
